    The Staff Accountant is a detail-oriented individual with a minimum of 3-5 years of accounting or finance experience responsible for carrying out assigned responsibilities in the Finance / Accounting Department and supporting the business departments.  This is a heavy hands-on role focused on General Ledger analysis, journal entries, reconciliations, preparation of supporting documentation and disclosures for monthly and ½ year / full year financials.  The role is also responsible for documenting procedures and participating in process improvement projects.  Other technical accounting and reporting tasks may be delegated by the Corporate Assistant Controller.  The candidate must have knowledge of general accounting principles and be proficient at accounting software and MS Office (especially Excel).

    The applicant should display a positive and proactive attitude, strong organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize and multitask.  They should be a strong communicator, both written and oral, as the position requires frequent dealings with colleagues in other parts of the organization and vendors.  Demonstrated strong analytical skills a must.

    Detailed Responsibilities:

    • Reconcile various accounts, including all accounts for Energy Services and cash accounts
    • Ensure that all files transmitted to underwriters agree to month end reporting and are submitted for review
    • Work closely with operations to reconcile cash issues
    • Work closely with Energy Services on variances noted in inventory/AR
    • Ensure assigned account reconciliations are accurate and complete on a monthly basis.
    • Assist with the development of improved processes and key controls within the Finance function.
    • Ensure compliance with existing policies and procedures.
    • Research and resolve a variety of routine internal and external inquiries and communicate resolution to appropriate persons.
    • Maintain accurate electronic files and evidence to support the account reconciliations and journal entries.
    • Assist with external and internal audits as required.
    • Manage and perform ad hoc projects as directed by management



    • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in accounting or finance
    • Bachelor Degree in Accounting or Finance, MBA/CPA a plus 
    • Strong working knowledge of general ledger financial systems, financial chart of accounts - Oracle R12 Experience a plus
    • Strong accounting principles knowledge, familiar with IFRS
    • Proficient in MS Word / Excel
